ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

ABOUT THE INSTALLATION

RxART’s collaboration with Gracie Square Hospital will enhance the activity rooms and the group therapy room in the Young Adult/College Student unit. In this program, the average length of stay is approximately 10 days, and patients frequently spend much of their time in these rooms. Artist Hilary Pecis is thoughtfully approaching this commission in order to enhance the comfort and peacefulness of the spaces through imagery of nature. Pecis is creating three works on paper, including a series of landscapes. Once completed, Pecis’s original artworks will be photographed and fabricated in Acrovyn, a common hospital-approved wall material. The end result will be a series of immersive, tranquil murals,

bringing a sense of serenity from the outdoors into the patient unit.

ABOUT THE HOSPITAL

ABOUT THE HOSPITAL

Gracie Square Hospital is New York City’s only free-standing hospital dedicated to behavioral health and has been a force in the ongoing battle to end the stigma of mental illness. The Young Adult Program at Gracie Square Hospital focuses on the specialized needs of young adults aged 18 to 25. The program goals include providing more effective treatment at an earlier stage in illness, establishing an aftercare plan to prevent relapse, and helping families understand diagnosis and treatment recommendations. On average, approximately 300 patients enter the Young Adult Program each year.
