ABOUT THE INSTALLATION
In 2010, RxART and photographer Ryan McGinley transformed the Pediatric and Adolescent Psychiatric Units at NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County with the artist’s Winter Olympics portfolio. McGinley’s inspirational photographs of strong and soaring young athletes as they make their way through enormous challenges to succeed infused the unit with a sense of palpable hope. According to the hospital providers, his images promote positivity in the units and support the therapeutic environment in which the young patients are receiving treatment.
This project was made possible through the generous support of the William E. Weiss Foundation.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ryan McGinley (b. 1977, Ramsey, NJ) is a photographer known for his art that captures the fleeting experiences of youth in contemporary culture. He studied graphic design at the Parsons School of Design, where he began to experiment with photography and became involved in the downtown art scene. He photographs his subjects in both urban and natural settings, exploring the ways in which the human body blends into its environment, embracing rather than rejecting it. McGinley lives and works in New York.
At age 25, McGinley was one of the youngest artists to have a solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum of American Art. His work has also been exhibited at MoMA PS1, Queens, NY; Ratio 3, San Francisco, CA; Team Gallery, New York, NY; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, NY.
